It's Beginning to Look a Little Bit Christmasy

With uncomfortable humid showery weather of late it's hard to feel energetic about anything that requires exertion. However with the air on I have begun my decorating for Christmas. Several years ago I came to the conclusion that I was over the commercialisation of this time of year and that I was going to embrace the treasures and memories that family and friends had created in years gone past and to look forward to ones yet to be made......these cannot be bought. Don't misunderstand me.....I LOVE Christmas decorations! But unless they have a personal connection for me....I can live without them. The handmade and hand chosen mean much more to me these days.
It nevers seems like Christmas until I have our Family Tradition wall hanging up.

I made it many years ago and it now bears the names of all in our little family. Seeing the Grandies check for their name each year is just delightful......not sure if they think they will disappear off it throughtout the year or what? But so nice just the same.
My Holly Cottage Christmas quilt recreated for me by my beautiful friends usually has a bear guardian.....but she went on holidays and has entrusted her duties to these two...

Also long time Christmas favourites......I am taking my time putting out my treasures...

Enjoying the memories......tree still to come.
My new project is underway......getting a feel for colour choices....
Applique planning underway.....
I wanted a brighter look but still in the reproduction vein......now to make it all work together......I definitely see a bit of needleturn in my future, what with Angel Story as well.......
Uncomfortable weather or not......a bonus of this season are these.....
Delicious Mangoes! This lot are fast disappearing......yum!
That's all folks.....with Hubby glued to the cricket, corned beef cooking..... stitching here I come!

Namaste and Blessings Michelle xxx

  5. Love your decorations/decorating. I too prefer the handmade decorations as so many of the bought ones are gaudy looking. That said i do pick up natural looking decorations & i tell myself no more every year & then i spot them & i "must" have them. The only other commercial decorations i buy are Jim Shore ornaments. Love the new project. Hugs, xx

  8. Your home made decorations have meaning and are much more special than the store bought decorations. They look wonderful. Sure is hard to get motivated in the hot muggy weather.

YOu have some beautiful decorations. I love your Family traditions hanging - think I might have to borrow that idea - for next year maybe!!! Beautiful start to your new quilt :-)
