Sunday Stitchers

This past Sunday I was able to join my friends at Sunday Stitchers. It's been 2 years since I was able to be there. It felt lovely to be back amongst friends after so long.

As ususal there was a morning tea theme and being January it was Australia Day.

Show and tell was some great charity quilts from Inca and Susan, a baby quilt from Susan and a Sister stitch along finish from Anita.
Also Susan, Sandi and De had some Spargo House blocks....I didn't catch what or where for those....probably too busy talking lol! But they are very cute!
I took my slow stitching bits and bobs....

I may have just inspired (corrupted) a few of the girls to create some new slow stitching projects.....thank you girls for the lovely welcome back xx
I worked on the label for Letter to My Daughter quilt.
Finishing it off over the last couple of evenings.
This quilt is now a flimsy and off to my lovely quilting fairy.

I am really happy to have this quilt almost done as then I could enjoy my new project with a clear conscience lol!
I am having a bit of a SAL with my friend Fiona @bubzrugz Prep is underway....yay!
I am using a beautiful collection of fabrics that Fiona gifted me for my last birthday.

One more little project was on my list before I began this new one and that was a smaller Kanthi mat for my Mum's treadle machine to match somewhat the one I made for the nearby coffee table.

My art group also resumed this week and I decided a bigger version of the Orang-utan I sketched would be my new project.
There is going to be some much shorter pencils after this little he has to be very much darker which equates to lots of pigment.....but I am definitely enjoying his company.
Ok! That's me done. I am off to get some dinner.....something I have found very difficult, I have lost intetest in dinner making.
Take care friends.

My Slow Stitching Addiction

Hello there. I mentioned in a previous post that I would share my stitched books and snippet rolls. I have always enjoyed handstitching. So when this so called "slow stitching " movement emerged I found myself becoming more and more interested. The first project I undertook was the 52 tag challenge by Anne Brookes which exposed me to loads of lovely projects.  I didn't however like the really rough and rustic finishes favoured. I decided nothing was preventing me from creating the way I wanted to.

I  became enamoured with 'snippet rolls' and embroidery books and decided to dive in.
My first book.....

I loved stitching it so much I really wanted to create another one. I decided on a Nature theme for my next one.
This is my front cover....
And the back cover.
Couldn't not have a Bee page.....and birdies appearing too.
Always fancied Sunshine and Moonshine pages.....I  tried some dyeing with watercolour pencils on these pages.
Beautiful flowers and our beautiful beaches.
Feathers and butterflies. Used some stamped pieces of fabric on my Feathers page.
Leaves....lots of leaves and a nod to upcycling using a little orphan stitchery I had designed and stitched. Lots of selvage strips to.
I have had the blue hexie for over 20 years and it was made from 1800's fabric and given to be by an old lady in my first quilting group.
Lastly a compilation of birds, leaves and buttons.
Even though I loved every minute of making these books. I still cannot get a good finish on assembly but the enjoyment makes up for the less than perfect finish. Featuring all those special bits of fabric, buttons and lace....loved it!
Now my true addiction is the little snippet rolls which are attached to vintage bobbin spools.....cannot stop making them.

Truthfully I can say there will be more lol!
I have been making use of my new sketchbook.....I fell in love with some reference photos of an adult and baby Orang-utans....I think that maybe the adult will become a bigger coloured pencil study.

I saw this quote and really loved can see I am getting back to my soppy self.
I hope you all enjoy your weekend.

Magic At The Museum

Hello there. heavy! Last week my Daughter joined me to visit the Queensland Museum to visit..

We got a bit silly.....but figured it was long overdue.....had to try some Minnie Mouse ears!

Said hi to Snow White.....
But if I am honest as a child I preferred all the wicked Queens....
But the real reason I wanted to visit was so see all the drawings from years gone by for all the animations.....and I was far from disappointed.....loved them all....a few samples!

There were story boards and beautiful watercolour interesting....loved this photo showing the artist getting an expression in the mirror to replicate on his drawing.
I bought a new handbag sketchbook as a memento....and had a bit of a sketch....which was highly encouraged....always loved cranky Donald lol!

As an extra treat we had a leisurely walk through Southbank on our way to lunch......

We needed that walk after our dessert.....dear daughter and I shared a bit of each.

Throughly enjoyed our outing!
On another Mum had a lovely old Singer treadle machine....nobody in the family wanted it and the thought was perhaps we would sell it. But in the end I just couldn't bear for it to go to strangers as she really loved it. Soooo I found a spot....luckily I am not a minimalist lol!
Well if you have waded through all my photos thank me I gave you the edited version lol!
Ok I am off to do a bit of that my hand sewing is just about done for Letter to My Daughter.....I am doing a bit of work on my Lucy Boston.....oh is that my Lucy Boston friends hitting the floor in a faint lol!

Take care,
