Friday Roundup

Another week has seemingly flown by and Summer is giving us a preview this week of what's in store for us.....a very warm one forecast for us today.
For many years now Jacaranda trees seem to have become the herald of Spring in Brisbane with masses of beautiful mauve/blue blooms everywhere.
My old tree gives her best each year......such a pretty sight outside my verandah.
I love the visitors that come.....believe or not but their a lots of birdie bums amongst those blossoms. I look forward each  year to the Blue faced Honeyeaters that seem to just love the sweet blooms......I tried very hard for a photo to show you and this was the best I could do lol!
Some find the carpet of mauve on their lawns annoying.....I think it looks  so pretty!
Sewing wise I have been doing a little festive stitching......
The hexie border is on Wings waiting for butterflies in each corner....made a bit of a mess of my measuring and chopped but I am not crying over what I cannot put back!

Slow stitching on 1797 Revisted has been taking place whilst waiting in the car for the Grandie pickup..
Decisions on the fabric choices takes me forever....lol! Trying hard to use what I have and give my treasured French General bits another turn at becoming something beautiful......apparently I am not alone lol!
We have a timber room divider and it is something we saved hard for back in the day but now looks very tired so the dear husband is giving it a revamp in lovely pearl.
This photo is called...."Suprised Tradie" lol!
I had only just got all the dust cleaned in all the nooks and crannies from the sanding in the entry and it seems we are at it again.....
Looking forward to it being done.
Enjoy your weekend.

Inspiration

Yesterday was our Sunday Stitchers meeting for October......as usual loads of beautiful show and tell. I don't know about you but seeing the work of others is very inspiring to me......
Helen had her gorgeous Miss Matty's Parlour finished to show us and I love the label. Noreen shared her stunning "Breast of Friends" quilt and we also had a special visitor.........De's Mum, Pat....all the way from Tassie! That beautiful bag was made especially for her by De.
Noreen also had 3 other lovely finishes particularly the blue strippy quilt made in rememberance of her dear Brother and donated to his care home.
Helen also had her beautiful Ruth's Quilt all finished and was a treat to see. I am not sure what the other lovely quilt was called.

Inca was also very industrious and made a great work pouch and gorgeous quilt in Flower Sugar fabrics.....the pretty blue quilt is a charming charity quilt Inca has made from donated fabrics. Tatyana's very cute little lady beetle was so sweet too.
Marilyn had some lovely finishes also.....a row by row group project, Christmas wall hanging and cute pouch.
I shared my Brinton Hall quilt which was my October UFO CHALLENGE.  I now have a finished flimsy.....woohoo! I do love those framed medallions!
I am really happy that I decided to finish it at this point.

Lots and lots of hexies....

A very nice way to spend a Sunday. Stitching, sharing and being inspired.

FNSI

Last evening was October....
Hosted by the lovely WENDY of Sugarlane Quilts
I knew I was going to be out for some of the evening which you can read about *HERE* so I did some stitching in the afternoon....what?
Well I started that new project I mentioned last post. I am a member now of an online English Paper Piecing group and they are doing a project which is recreating an antique bed coverlet from 1797. It is a simple one patch design but very appealing.
Here is the orginal and inspiration from the V&A museum in the UK.
I decided to use up some more gorgeous French General fabrics and after some decisions made a start.
I basted the next row before going out to see how it would look.

Once I arrived home I managed to get a bit of the next round stitched on.
I have lots of bits and fat quarters that I can use so hopefully it will look good. Some rounds will be one fabric and others will be a mixture but staying with the alternate light and dark design.
If you joined in I hope you enjoyed your creative pursuit.
Two happy surprises in the garden this morning......
I have a RED Hippeastrum....who knew lol!

And my Tree Begonia has loads of bracts of pretty white blossoms.
Happy weekend folks.

Under the Weather

Good morning folks from cloudy old Brisbane town. We have had quite a bit of rain over the last week and every thing was wet and drippy......
I was well and truly under the weather with a nasty bug....thankfully on the move now.....so not a lot of sewing to show as my pillow, honey, lemons and pain killers were my best friends for a while.
I have 2 more bright circles to share.....
And I have slowly been stitching my 2nd border on "Wings".
They will go here....
I am on the final side now that I am feeling better......I want to begin a new handwork project but want to keep this one moving forward. So I am being very good and not starting yet....more about it later.
Yesterday it was my turn to host for Wednesday stitching group.....
Which was so nice as it always is.....lots of chat and laughter....and on my part a teeny bit of stitching on my borders....others were more industrious.
So thats the state of the nation as my place.

FNWF October

My goodness these Friday nights seem to come around so quickly....or perhaps that's just me. They are a great opportunity to stitch a long with fellow stitchers or yarn wranglers all over Australia and overseas today.
Thank you CHERYLL for bringing us all together.
My efforts were bits and bobs.....
Tried out some tiny hexies to see what kind of a flower they will make...
Finished off a circle to make another block of 4 in my bright circles.
And then finished by stitching long hexies together. I managed 1 and a half rows worth for the 2nd border on my "Wings and Pretty Things " quilt.
A very enjoyable way to spend my evening......how about you? If you click HERE you can find the link to see what other Friday nighters got up to.
We have had a little rain here overnight with more forecast......how I wish I could take a depth breath and blow it out west where it is truly needed.
The garden is of course responding in green and I am excited to have my strawberry plants starting to bear fruit.....in my favourite colour RED!

I wish you a lovely weekend however you choose to spend it.

Friends and a Finish

I had a great day out yesterday at the Brisbane Quilt show. It was like old home week running into lots of friends....Ann, Diane, Sue, Fionna, Lynda and lunch with SUSAN and FIONA
Fiona and I had arranged to meet up for the day and we managed to lead each other astray. I did bring some treasures home....
A lovely Sashiko kit which I have been drooling over as my friends have stitched them.....needles, which resulted in lovely fabrics sticking to the needles lol!
Some pretty French General and French Linen pieces too.
A little bag of secret goodies....
There were so many beautiful quilts on display but unfortunately this year photography was prohibited so you will have to take my word for it.
But I  was a very happy stitcher when I fell into bed last night with a head swimming with beautiful things.
Speaking of beautiful things, I have sewn the binding down on my Gardener's Journal quilt. It was another quilted by clever friend FIONA
I am so pleased with the beautiful quilting .
Love the pretty vines and leaves.....perfect for a Gardener's quilt.
Lots of sweet details....
The only thing left to do is write on the label.
I am so happy to have finally stitched 2 of my favourite Anni Downs quilt designs....its only taken me years and years! But I got there eventually!
I have one more quilt collected from Fiona that needs binding too.
So of course that means that I am allowed to do new things....
Last night some tiny hexies were sewn!
And I am looking forward to getting back to my design..."Wings and Pretty Things "
Have a lovely day folks.
