Floral and Favourite thing Friday

My contribution to Floral Friday fabric is this beautiful violets fabric. I don't usually have a lot of mauve or purple fabrics but when I saw this I had to buy it, all 2 metres of it plus fat 1/4's in the range. I have had this fabric for a really long time and have always been going to design something for it but the truth is I can't bear to cut it up (how silly is that). I get such pleasure when I look at all those gorgeous violets. As a little girl my Nanna had the silk type that she used to wear as a brooch and I loved them. Even one of my bears in Bear Posies quilt is called Violet and has a posy of Violets. I think also the fabric has vintage cards etc. on it and I love that as well.

My Favorite Thing Today is:
My old Singer Sewing machine my husband bought me for our 25th wedding Anniversary. It has lots & lots of my other favourite sewing bits and pieces on it. Thimbles, my great grandmothers needle container, my Nannas pin tin, a lovely spool box my daughter bought me when she first started working, old cotton reels and other treasures. You may have guessed by now that I am a bit of a "pack rat" but only with certain things. My husband went out one Saturday while I was working and bought it in a little country village about an hours drive from where we live. It is still in working order with a new belt in the draw. 3. Your violet fabric is really nice. It's funny how we can't bear to cut some fabrics. Maybe you could make a nice patchwork envelope with lace trim for undies or a nice shoulder dust protector that goes over a coat in the wardrobe with prairie points border. Just so you can see it everyday. I also like you thimble collection.

  4. Your violet fabrics are so pretty Michelle. I love violet talc - very 'old lady' I know but the smell is divine. Instead of cutting the fabric up you could do what I do and make table cloths. I have so many made from fabrics that I adore.
Thanks for sharing in Floral Friday

  7. Some fabrics are just too good to cut up but maybe the perfect design will come to mind one day. In the mean time you can admire it as is. I love violets too. Tracee xx

  12. Love the fabrics Michelle!

I used to have a singer treadle when I was a kid and used it for a desk. I have no idea where it went. I wish my folks had kept it because I would love to have it as a display just like yours. You have a real knack for arranging/staging. It looks so pretty!

  13. Hello Michelle,

I am sure we probably can all own up to buying material that is too pretty to cut up. The perfect pattern will come along one day. Love the photo's of your sewing machine and its display. Happy days.
