Fancy Some Show & Tell?

Today was stitching day with my friends....the lovely Robyn was our hostess.
Delicious morning tea to begin and boost our energy for all that sewing, chatting and laughing! Robyns son is a baker and always makes us a yummy cake.
The gang.....work close at hand!
Look at Diane working away there! We have created a hexie making monster lol!
I did say show and tell....Monica has another gorgeous UFO to cross off her list. It's a Faeries in my Garden project.

The cutest little stitching caddy with a pincushion within.
This quilt of Robyns is a favourite and definitely on my to do list one day....
We were then treated to some of Robyns almost finished WIPs....

I really tried to sneak this one out......right up my street!
Love it! And then its always fun to see Christmas.....
We all managed to sew too I might add! Yours truly? I worked on my clamshells...
Oh almost forgot this little cutie Monica made for Robyn.

Lovely, lovely day....thanks for the show and tell girls.

Finally....

A couple of Splendid Sampler blocks to pop on the pile....
I decided to embroider the little clasps on the purse rather than use buttons. I should have reread the Lynette Anderson block instructions as I thought it was only one border but apparently not lol!.....not unsewing! Sigh*
Although extremely appreciative of all the hard work and creative talents from all the designers involved in Splendid Sampler I am looking forward to seeing it end and catching up at my leisure. I am really pleased that I managed to get this far.
More hexies are happening and slowly being attached to the medallions. Very relaxing stitching. I am excited to be working on this quilt.
I so enjoyed working on the little Kingfishers that I couldn't leave them alone and now they are all done!

Thats it from me lovely people. I do hope you are all coping with this heat here in Aus. A little bit of "cool" for you....

Cool Stitching

The only place to be over the past few days in lovely humid old Queensland has been somewhere cool. Hexies and air-con seemed a good match to me.
Progress has been made with the cream row of hexies on Brinton Hall. I just had to join two to see what it looked like......
It looks a bit white there but the fabric actually has a little tan floral design and is much nicer in real life. I see lots and lots of 1 inch hexies in my future!
This month's Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour was "SEA GREEN"
Here in began the 'challenge ' part for me....not a colour I would usually have in my stash. However during my search for something 'suitable ' I discovered a little bundle of charm squares...where from I have no clue, but I found a little co-ordinating group of sea greenish squares.....
Plus a perfect birdie red for the applique....very chuffed! So I  set to work and now February is done and dusted...early for once lol!

Woo hoo!
The other little keep cool activity I engaged in was diving into the inspiration between the covers of some 'no longer wanted' art mags...

I do hope that you are managing to keep your cool also.

FNWF

Last night was our February
Hosted by Cheryll over at Gone Stitchin. Thank you Cheryll x It's a virtual stitching evening with lots of bloggers stitching at once. We then share what we worked on. I started early in the day as I was stitching a little something for my LQS....a sneaky peek!
After a busy day I settled down to finish appliquing my hexie crowns down on Brinton Hall. I take my hat off to you wonderful fussy cutters. I didn't exactly excel with my attempts....but I am not unpicking them!

I only had a couple to do so I am happy they are all done now.
The next step is 100 + cream hexies to join them together!
Just as well I love making hexies lol! As I was keeping Mr. R. company while he watched one of his train journey docos, I finished my night off with a little stitching on the Splendid Sampler block I had traced out last week.
Today I have left the hexies in the tin and spent a little time with these sweet little friends...

I am sure that they won't mind me showing you them without all their feathers drawn yet. These lovelies are happening because I have so many projects I want to begin and just cannot decide....a nice little interlude nonetheless.
I hope you are all enjoying your weekend however you are spending it.

Just Scraped In

My friend Lorel and I joined the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over at So Scappy again this year. We decided to add to our blocks from last year's with 4 patches with a touch of applique. January's colour was PURPLE. I really did scoot in my the skin of my teeth. Here is January!
We are going to alternate butterflies and birds.
Brinton Hall is moving slowly along with all my hexie crowns sewn and awaiting applique on to their special fabric.
LOTS of hexies in this project....just as well I like them.
I made a token gesture towards my huge pile of outstanding Splendid Sampler blocks and traced out Lynette Andersons cute block...
On a completely different tack, I wanted to share a little piece of news that has me both thrilled and terrified equally. I began the year with the news that I had been accepted as a member of the Queensland Wildlife Artist's Society Incorporated.
I had to submit some pieces of my artwork and you may remember mentioning that I was working on some special projects last year....these were my pieces.

I am so looking forward to being further inspired by these amazing artists. Also learning more about one of my passions....our amazing wildlife and the natural world.
Thank goodness I am also a quilter I am going to need the quiet meditation of stitching to calm the nerves and excitement.
Thanks to all you lovely people for being so kind and encouraging when I have shared my scribblings xx

Finished!

Yesterday was Australia Day here down under. We chose to celebrate quietly and I had a good old read and finished the binding on a special and personal quilt to me.
Remembering Roma!

I just know my Grandmother would have loved it and I enjoyed adding little things that bought her to mind....like pink carnations which were her favourite flowers, a fan she always had in her bag for church...strawberries for her delicious jam, birds which she loved, English paper piecing as she married an Englishman, to name a few.

My quilt was beautifully quilted by my dear friend FIONA of BubzRugz which added an extra pinch of 'special'. Most of the fabrics are from my French General stash.
It's nice to have it finished because I can now concentrate on my other UFOs.
Today was stitching day with friends and Theresa made us feel right at home and we had our tea/coffee out of her beautiful teacups....went very nicely with our scones, jam and cream. We actually did stitch amongst lots of chat!
I worked on Brinton Hall  (next on the list) I was pleased to get one hexie crown done and half another.
A lovely day! I  came home to showers which the garden was very pleased about.
As this post was in part about my Grandmother I shall leave you with one of her favourite quotes.

In a Bind...

I have been avoiding getting some finishing off jobs done because the air con doesn't reach my sewing cave very well....but...today I got up early and got those loose ends tied up! Lots of binding sewn on.
Remembering Roma was first.

Next a new pattern I am working on....have been for a while! Hopefully not tooo much longer folks!
Feels good to have that bit done. Now I can sit in the air con and stitch all that binding down.
I have got a sinusey coldy thingy.....too much partying I think recently! Anyway, until today haven't felt like doing too much after art class so I have just been quietly basting hexies for Brinton Hall. I nearly have enough for all the crowns in the first round.

I am basting them people.....I know it will take me forever but I failed gluing! Nope! Not a fan! Sigh! See dinosuar thinking is not extinct lol!

On a completely different note...
I have the sweetest Aunt and I visit her whenever I am able. I have loved her for as long as I  can remember. Soft of voice, quick to smile and a wonderful sense of humour. We also share a love of the critters in our natural world. I love spending time with her. Recently on a visit she gave me a little box of family treasures.....from my Grandmother. She wanted me to have them. When I peeked inside.....ohh!
Two more little chintz china demetasse cups to go with the one my Mum gave me....love them so much....and then there were three!
This one bought a tear or two....
It came from my Grandmother's dressing table, where it always sat holding her rings.
Not worth a Kings Ransom to others  but priceless to me. Beautiful memories.
I don't know where my sentimentality comes from but I can't be any different.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
