Summer Reading

I have been taking advantage of the cooler summer weather and have been curling up with some lovely books. My Mum is an avid reader so she produced quite a few from her suitcase upon arrival and several of mine went back in. I also gifted myself 2 books I found on sale. One is Jane Eyre which I read as a teenager and am throughly enjoying revisiting and the other is Jane Austen's "Persuasion"which I have never read. I have also read "the Lost Quilter" by  Jennifer Chiverini, "The Alphabet Sisters" by Monica McInernery, "Silent Country" by Di Morrisey, "Home for Christmas" Thomas Kinkades story and Kate Morton's "Secret Garden" is waiting in the wings. I love being able to give into the desire to read to my hearts content.
What are you reading that you are loving at the moment??
There is one sad note...I have come to the end of Kate's yummy Strawberry Jam that she sent to me as a gift. My toast is not the same :(
Blessings Michelle xx

  1. that is quite a list of books. I love Jane Eyre and re read part of it after seeing the new movie last year.
If I read I get too engrossed and my stitching will suffer lol.

  2. You certainly have been reading a lot. I was fortunate enough to buy my copy of Persuasion in Bath. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The last few books I have read have been ebooks on my ipad.

  3. I love Jane Eyre and Persuasion. If you love them you might enjoy Elizabeth Gaskell's novels. She wrote Cranford but Wives and Daughters is my favourite. I had a wonderful English teacher in year 11 who got me reading so many amazing novels and I well remember the summer holidays between year 11 and 12 floating on a lilo in my parents little pool and being whisked away to England in the 1800s

  4. PS if you get an iPod and get into audio books you can 'read' and sew at the same time. I'm currently listening to the latest Steven King which I am really enjoying.

  6. What a lovely group of books. Melody got me onto audiobooks years ago. I am listening to Cloudstreet atm. I read it on holidays at Port Douglas about 9 years ago so am really enjoying the revisit via my iPad.

  13. Hi Michelle, I have to read every day otherwise I feel like my whole world is just wrong. Similar to when I don't do any hand stitching. I have been having a lovely catch up on reading over my 2.5 week break. I am currently reading A Quilters Holiday by Jennifer Chiaverini. Her books are so heartfelt but they end too quickly. I see Melody referred to Cranford, I watched that on DVD last week (5 episodes) - it was divine, highly recommend it. Tracee xx

  14. I love reading when it is too hot!
On my break I read Alyzon Whitestarr by Isobel Carmody - a nice easy read from this talented Australian writer.
Enjoy getting lost in the 'other world' of stories.
