I have chosen a book this week. It's a coffee table book (so they say) called Country Quilts by the editors of Country Living magazine. I bought the book as a treat for myself one birthday a few years ago having been lent it by a friend. I just fell in love with the pages, the old quilts, the old furniture, the old rooms and the sentiments expressed about quilting and quilters. A quote form the book - 'Why do quilts have an enduring effect? Why do people continue to search for ways to include them in their lives? A quilt seems to have resonance, embodying more life than and ordinary bedapread or comforter. Handstitching shows that time and care went into it's making. The very look of a homemade quilt seems to invest a room with soul. The quilt stands alone as a symbol of talent, love and pride.' This book has become a sorce of inspiration to me and I can often be found curled up in my favourite chair with it wondering about the stories behind the quilts featured. Who made them and for what purpose other than warmth. Can you tell I love this book.
