Good morning all. A simply stunning day here in SE Queensland this morning.
Blue skies and sunshine streaming in through the window.
Last week I finished the little stitchery blocks I was working on from COME TO TEA and FROSTY FRIENDS.
I think the little teacups are rather pretty. I enjoyed stitching them.
And I have to say I love the little Frosty in the variegated reds.
I am planning a Christmas gift with these and a Yoko Saito design.....so pretty and understated.
My dear DIL wanted to learn to stitch and quilt before she had children and so we made a start and she made a lap quilt and a few other little projects....and then all that was put on hold because of difficult babes etc. Recently however I was delighted to see her pick up her needle and thread and dive back in.....a very cute wall hanging for Miss C.
Who seems delighted!
Decisions about fabrics are next. Well done DIL....don't you just love a new generation of stitcher! The thread from one generation to the next continues.
A hint of a MOAN now folks...sorry!
There is an air of disappointment around the old homestead at the moment. Our long awaited trip north has been put on hold after discovering this unwanted addition to our ceiling. Compliments of Cyclone Debbie and other factors.
The cause.....uncaring Solar panel installers and an aging roof! We will have to live to be 100 to get any financial benefit out of these darn panels! They have been a pain in the proverbial from the get go! Thank goodness I wanted them for an environmental effect as well! Anyway that's life and we have to stop pouting and get on with it. I am really hoping they move themselves to get it fixed so we can get out of here soon! The open road is calling! I do know its miniscule compared to others problems but allowing myself to be just a tad pinged off! Thanks for indulging me.

ReplyDeleteWhat a nuisance with the roof. Sorry to hear the panels are not living up to expectations, too. We have had our panels for years and hardly have a bill. Hope yours sort out soon as well as the roof.
Can relate to the aging, leaking roof, but not due to cyclone damage. Walked into our lounge room three years ago to see one wet head rest on an arm chair. Looked up and could see drips of water on the ceiling. The better half (debatable at times, I know) climbed up through the man hole and said he wouldn't need to go further as he could see daylight through the roof. One new roof and many $s later all is good. One bonus was that the roofers put extra insulation under the tin and we have better summer coolness now without the over usage of the air con. Good luck with your roof, AND I hope you get to hit the road soon.

O darn it, those solar panels really are haunting you aren't they?!!! Glad you found the source of the leak though...... Wonderful to see your dil's stitchery and hear that she is enjoying a bit of handwork. Love your frosties and tea cup cuties :-)

ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your stitcheries "unfold". My younger daughter took up quilting a number of years ago while completing her chef's apprenticeship in Canberra - made 2 full size quilts and a quilt for a friend's baby.... I thought all those years of dragging both girls to patchwork shops under sufferance had come to fruition in at least one of them.... has been travelling since then so no more quilts but the older daughter has on order a sewing machine - it is really lovely to see some form of handwork carried down through the generations!

ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of those solar panels. My friend had some installed. They used the wrong fittings and the pipes froze and burst. There was a great waterfall from the roof over the guttering. Unfortunately my friends were away at this time so we didn't see it until later in the morning. It had been running for a few hours... This happened twice.
Oh what a shame about your ceiling Michelle, I hope it can be fixed quickly & thoroughly, so you can get on the road! Beautiful stitching there too! x

ReplyDeleteOh, I do hate to be captive to the schedule of repairmen....hope they get it done quickly so you can still go....yes it is rewarding to see another generation pick up hand and machine work...my daughter recently learned to crochet, not form me, I tried to teach her when she was a young girl, but from friends...

Oh dear! Sorry about your ceiling. THat would have been quite a shock to the system. Hope it is repaired properly. Love your cute stitcheries and the variegated thread always enhances a project. Clever DIL. Looks like your granddaughter loves it.
