Well as you may have heard we had the Mother of all tropical storms here in Brisbane on Thursday afternoon.....the skies went dark and the wind howled!
These are photos from the storm that others have taken.
Huge hail pummeled the city...
We were lucky where we live that we only got the fringe of the storm. Not far from where my poor school teacher daughter was bunkered down with 50 students and 3 other teachers for a school sleepover planes were flipped on their roof at Archerfield airfield.
My husband boarded his train from the city at 4.19pm and rang me at 4.30 pm to say they were stranded on the train without power several stops from the CBD. They got off the train on to buses at 9.45 pm and he got home at 11.10 pm very tired and as he is a diabetic and only jelly beans to sustain him a little worse for wear. Loads of people were stranded in this way. I couldn't go to get him as the roads were chaos and roads were closed everywhere. So all in all a fun night! Thankfully though all things considered our home and ourselves are intact unlike lots of Brissymites whose homes and properties sustained terrible damage.
So a relatively easy weekend for us.
Most of my decorating is done...
This Nativity scene is one of our oldest family pieces and gets put out each year. I just love it and it was something my Mum picked up somewhere for us and she told us it was very inexpensive. I think it's simplicity says it all.
My dining room table is still a riot but today I am going to put up our Christmas trees all ready to decorate December 1st. The tree skirt (also verrrry old) is all set to go!
Do you have decorations and items that are old or special to your family? I was watching a show about recycling things for your Christmas decorating and I thought gee I have put up the same decorations for years and any new ones are usually special gifts or handmade piece from friends....definitely not a trendy here! But I think that is what I love about it, bringing to mind my beloved family and friends who have contributed to the celebration of Christmas in my home every year. Well musn't tarry! The tree awaits!
I thought I would leave you with some of my tropical beauties just to counter the gloom from the storm.
Enjoy your weekend.
Namaste and Blessings,
Michelle xxx

ReplyDeleteYour tropical beauties are indeed beautiful. I saw pictures from your storm on our news this morning. I'm glad you didn't sustain any damage, and that DH finally made it home!!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering how you fared in the storm......glad to hear that it was no worse than it was for you.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you are safe after that horrible storm. Beautiful decorations, I still have my mothers nativity set to cherish.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you and your home were undamaged Michelle,
ReplyDeleteHope Mr R is feeling fit and rested again now.
We were thinking of you,
It certainly was a shocking storm.
P/S your decorations are gorgeous, we have an ancient celluloid Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck that have to go on our tree every year.
Hugs R.
That must've sure been scarey for both you & Mr R. Michelle ... glad you are all safe now. We have had some unseasonal wild weather here too. Your decorations are beautiful .. I have a couple of old ones that I treasure but nothing as lovely as yours.
ReplyDeleteWhat a scary time! My daughters are in Brisbane and thankfully they are OK, some folks property had some major damage.
ReplyDeleteLike you Michelle I have some special Christmas goodies, like some Christmas cross stitches my boys made when they were little and wanted to "cross stitch like mummy!" They are not going to win any art or trendy awards but they have a place in my heart.
Our news reports showed horrific pictures of storm damage. Glad you were all ok. We have so many decorations that I don't put them all on the tree each year. But when my children establish their own homes, some of the family decorations will go to them with the associated memories.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you survived the storm. When I go away I try to buy a Christmas decoration so every year I can remember all the lovely places I have been and the people I have met.
ReplyDeleteYour plants are beautiful Michelle...good to hear you were ok after the storm....good too Mr R was ok. We have some balls that the boys made when they were young, painted ceramic with their names on.
ReplyDeleteIt made it to our news in the UK. Glad you are all safe. Enjoy the christmas decorating.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you avoided the worst of the storm, and that your hubby got home ok. Enjoy your decorating, I am making a start tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle, I am so glad you are all safe. How horrific for some people. I have a lovely table topper that I am excited about putting out tomorrow :)
ReplyDeleteI was amazed at what we saw in the reports about that storm. So much damage and so quickly.
ReplyDeleteI am pleased to hear you all got through it okay, even with the inconvenience.
Looks like you are super organized for Christmas.
How scary for everyone, not to mention extremely frustrating. Glad you are all safe and sound!
ReplyDeleteThat weather of yours was sure freaky ...made me a bit nervous about flying up this week . Im not sure I want to be somewhere where mother nature is throwing golf sized balls of hail around.
ReplyDeleteGlad Mr. R eventually made it home safe and sound.
Glad to hear you fared well & that hubby got home safe & sound. I'll only be able to half decorate this year. GS is at the stage where he likes to pull everything down/apart so i can only imagine what he would do to my tree/presents. Oh well just means i can doubly decorate next year. lol. Hugs,xx
ReplyDeletecrazy storm but lovely decorating...
ReplyDeleteHugz
so pleased you were safe and well. It's all topsy turvy, our weather isn't it? I mean, you get the cyclonic weather and us in the north have stillness......so strange!
ReplyDeleteHope Mr R is feeling much better now...you must have been worried. I'm getting to decorating today...can't wait! xox sugary hugs :o)
Your poor hubby he may need some extra TLC. Love the start of your decoration - sometimes the least expensive pieces are the most treasure - the ones that remind us of someone we love.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are both safe .. The decos are looking good x
ReplyDeleteSo glad you escaped damage from that terrible storm Michelle and that Mr R got home (eventually) okay. Some beautiful Christmas keepsakes you have
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle - lovely to see your Christmas decorations - we definitely have items that are old too... I simply cannot part with them plus the tradition & memories of them are just so important!
ReplyDeleteGlad you all survived the storm, what a scary night you all had.
ReplyDeleteGosh Michelle - I knew it was bad - but not that bad!!...I'll bet DH was weary - and probably hungry too!!More to come unfortunately. Your place must look magical over Christmas.
ReplyDeleteSounds like your hubby was on my train, I catch the 4.14 Gold Coast train from Central, I also got home just around 11.pm on Thursday night as well. A 7 hour commute isn't my ideal time of fun. I didn't go to work on Friday as I hadn't eaten anything and had a headache and a very still sore neck. A lady near me was diabetic as well but all I had to offer was chewing gum, another lady gave her a piece of rocky road..
