My Treasured pet is no longer with me. He died 2 years ago on May 1st. I'm not posting this to make anyone sad or depressed but as a celebration of our little Fur-Boys life. His name was Doc and he was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He had a beautiful black shiny coat with a white chest (like a tuxedo) and white tips on his front paws. A magnificent smile, beautiful gentle brown eyes, was an avid fan of licking everyone and was a very good soccer player. My son bought him home as a pup and he stole our hearts. My son taught him how to play soccer with a small hard rubber ball but he couldn't do it unless he had his Kong toy in his mouth at the same time. He would bat the ball to you and then it was your turn and he would talk to you until you returned the ball. He was the most beautiful soul I have ever encountered and I miss seeing him waiting at the top of the stairs for me when I return home. Unfortunately they are a much maligned breed but as every "Staffy" family will tell you they are very special and beautiful animals. Our "Staffy" was certainly loved dearly and returned our love a hundred fold. He loved everyone and even put up with being terrorised by my daughters black poodle "Sophie". He was so funny if you told him Sophie was coming he went and hid in the bedroom. Sophie is a toy poodle mind you!!
Doc is pictured with a dear family friend, in his "Queenslander" coat and with his beloved Kong toy.

I have had to post early as I have an early Yoga class. I'll be back later to meet your friends. Thanks Melody for the chance to share our special boy with you all.
Have a great day,
Blessings Michelle

ReplyDeleteBrought a tear to my eye... we had one who looked exactly like that in Zim... we luckily found a home for her but she has since died.... such a fantastic character.... and so gentle... would have been a lovely wife to Doc...

Yep there's no doubt that it's impossible to forget the really special ones. Mine was a Vizsla named Calais. Still makes we laugh and cry to remember him.
ReplyDeleteDoc is delightful and I agree Staffies are wonderful, friendly happy dogs. They really do smile. I'm so glad he lived with and was loved by you. Sorry I was very late with this post today but hopefully you will get a chance to link later. Thanks so much for sharing Doc.
ReplyDeleteHello Michelle,
ReplyDeleteA lovely tribute to Doc.
Happy days.

Coming from a staffy myself, I know just how you feel. Doc was just gorgeous. We lost our "China" last year, and now have Millie, but there will never, ever be another China.

Oops, obviously I meant to say "a staffy family".

I also had a staffy many years ago. They certainly are loyal and friendly. Doc looks like a real sweetie.
ReplyDeleteLove him in his jacket. Such a typical Staffy stance.
ReplyDeleteThey really are part of the family, lovely post.

That's the hardest part about owning a pet isn't it... they don't live long enough. Hugs
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful boy. He reminds me of the Staffy who lived up the road from us when I was growing up. His name was Rocky. He was gorgeous. His owners, teenage boys were growing up and not home much so my sister and I and 4 or 5 other neighbourhood friends would play with Rocky each day, He knew when we were due home from school and would meet us at the top of the hill. He would climb trees and loved to eat oranges. When the local bullies came around he would protect us all and chase them off. He was the biggest softie I have ever known.
ReplyDeleteOur Family love Staffies too Michelle, they are such fun loving little dogs, I am sorry to hear you lost Doc, and know just how you feel, but we never forget our four legged family members do we? Thank you for the lovely comment you left about our Toby, Love R.
